This client sought to modernize its systems and capabilities to meet the future business demands of a global supply chain. Trility helped scale and accelerate development by optimizing cloud benefits, implementing mature DevSecOps practices, and positioning the teams to scale data capabilities to enable machine learning and AI solutions.
This shipping and transport client’s existing ability to scale and respond to development requests was not sufficient based on the growing business demands of the global supply chain it supports. The development teams also desired adoption of DevSecOps practices to create predictable, repeatable, and secure deployment patterns across the enterprise.
This client hired Trility to help identify manually intensive processes that could be improved and accelerated by leveraging DevSecOps and realize the benefits of the cloud.
Trility mapped out business workflows to determine how effectively to streamline and automate manual workflows when building repeatable deployment patterns, source control repositories, reusable pipelines, and CI/CD workflows. Trility identified use cases that would bring the most value, highlighting where automating security could reduced exposure to threats.
By standing up all the resources needed to support an Azure Data Factory (ADF) deployment, Trility built a solution that ensured Azure resources were readily available for development teams by facilitating an end-to-end workflow using GitHub Enterprise. Trility created a GitHub issue form that enabled the client’s DevSecOps team to deploy an ADF working repository for that business area to self-manage.
Trility also created Azure Infrastructure as Code (IaC) in Terraform deployed by customized GitHub Action workflows that followed DevSecOps best practices.
By building a centralized ecosystem and enabling access to data, the client could achieve data insights and deploy solutions to improve schedule efficiency, monitor the health of tech systems, and more.
Implementing DevSecOps capabilities and setting up ADF and GitHub repositories allowed the client to quickly deliver business solutions and scale cloud automation beyond ADF due to reusable enterprise patterns. Trility also upskilled the client’s team members so they can manage the lifecycle of cloud platform solutions.
Trility set performance metrics for business outcomes: modernizing cloud deployment for data infrastructure, improving DevSecOps security and compliance, increasing operational efficiencies and cost savings, and accelerating delivery. By introducing DevSecOps, it resulted in the following efficiencies for these teams:
Architects - 56% decrease in end-to-end tasks, 60% decrease in manual IaC tasks.
Information Assurance - 84% decrease in end-to-end tasks, 90% decrease in manual IaC tasks.
Networking - 42% decrease in end-to-end tasks, 44% decrease in manual IaC tasks.
For end-to-end deployment, automated tasks were increased by 142%, handoffs decreased by 46%, and number of decision points decreased by 33%.
